چکیده

A dosimetric spectrum evaluator was employed to evaluate the total biologically effective UV (UVBEplant) on the surface of all the leaves of small plants. It was applied to evaluate the UVBEplant to soybean leaves (Glycine max [L.] Merr.), cultivar Essex. The plants received three levels of UVBEplant averaged over all the leaves (0, 8.1 and 15.8 J cm) from emergence to the V7 growth stage. As canopy closure occurred with plant growth, the ratio of the average of the UVBEplant to all leaves compared to that on the uppermost set of leaves changed from 0.85 to 0.50 to 0.29 for the V2, V4 and V7 stages respectively. Measurement of the UVBEplant at the top of the canopy would introduce errors of 18%, 100% and 245% at the V2, V4 and V7 stages respectively compared to the actual exposure to the plant leaves. The evaluation of leaf UVBEplant allows formulation of models defining plant response such as suppression of plant height and leaf area in terms of the UV exposure to all the leaves along with the effects on the fresh and dry weights of the leaves, stems and roots.

Metabolic and Ionic Changes in Leaves of Zygophyllum fabago L. Depending on Age

Introduction: Zygophyllum fabago L. is a C3 type plant and tolerant to drought with a widespread distribution in arid and semi-arid regions. For two reasons, the study of the physiological behavior of the Z. fabago in its natural environment is important. First, various species of Zygophyllum are often not used for animal feeding or fuel preparation, while all parts of the plant (leaf, stem, ro...

Seed priming with Electromagnetic Field Improved Growth, Nutrition, And Metabolism of Salvia nemorosa L.

In this study, the efficiencies of seed priming with electromagnetic field (0, 2, 4, and 6 mT; 30 minutes daily for 3 days) were investigated in Salvia nemorosa. The exposure to electromagnetic filed led to significant increases in biomass accumulation (mean=53.6 %). Electromagnetic filed treatments significantly increased K, Ca, Mg, and Fe contents in leaves by mean 39.5 %. The electromagnetic...

Effects of UV B and UV C radiation on viability, growth, and major natural compounds of Malve neglecta L. cells . Faezeh Ghanati*, Faezeh Khatami, and Ebrahim Bemani

Callus cultures were established in vitro from leaf explants of Malva neglecta and were sub-cultured several times until a rapid-growing cell line was obtained. The calluses were exposed to different doses of ultraviolet (UV) radiation as follows: 0, 432, 864, and 1296 J/m2 for UV B and 0, 612, 1284, and 1836 J/m2 for UV C, corresponding to 0, 30, 60, and 90 min radiations, in tandem. Exposure ...

The effect of water deficiency and salinity on the growth and quality of fresh dill (Anethum graveolens L.) during autumn and spring cultivation

The aim of this experiment was to determine the response of dill (Anethum graveolens L.) towater deficiency and salinity. In spring, dill biomass decreased with increasing water deficiencydue to a reduction in the number and mean weight of leaves per plant. The concentrations ofchlorophyll, carotenoids, vitamin C and total phenolics within the leaves were unaffected bywater stress, but the Cl, ...

Morphological and Biochemical Responses of Basil Plant Under Ultraviolet Radiation-B and Deficit Irrigation Under Greenhouse Conditions

Environmental stresses such as deficit irrigation and ultraviolet radiation can influence plant growth and development. Among the environmental variables, ultraviolet radiation is an important factor in plant response to other stresses, such as deficit irrigation. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of ultraviolet B radiation (UV-B), irrigation stress and combined effects o...
